Martha’s Vineyard Hospital was recently named one of iVantage Health Analytics’ top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in the U.S. for the third year in a row. The hospital was also named as a top 100 rural and community hospital in the U.S.
“I am very proud of the efforts of our physicians and staff who have contributed to our achieving this designation,” Timothy J. Walsh, hospital CEO, said last week as he prepared to walk out the door upon his retirement.
The results recognize that the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals provide a safety net to communities across rural America, measuring each hospital across more than 70 different performance metrics, including quality, outcomes, patient perspective, affordability, population risk, and efficiency, according to a press release.
“These top 100 Critical Access Hospitals and rural and community hospitals exhibit a focused concern for their community benefits and needs, regardless of scale, reimbursement, and people’s ability to pay, and play a vital role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of the rural health safety net,” Michael Topchik, senior vice president of iVantage Health Analytics, said.
The critical care access designation recognizes a lack of alternatives for hospital care in rural areas and provides higher reimbursement rates.
