Traffic crawls over the Lagoon Pond drawbridge early Thursday morning.

Final paving of the Lagoon Pond drawbridge began Thursday and will continue on Friday. Tisbury selectman and bridge committee member Melinda Loberg told The Times only one lane will be open to traffic all day both days. “There will be long waits and delays,” she said in an email. She advised travelers “to seek alternative routes when possible.”

Work is expected to begin at 6 am and continue as late as 7 pm depending on bituminous concrete deliveries, the project manager said.

Ms. Loberg said work crews expect “to do the striping on Monday and Tuesday, but those closures will be shorter in duration.”

The Lagoon Pond Bridge is currently operating under the May 15 to Sept. 15 daily bridge-opening schedule for boats transiting the passage, which allows for five potential double-lane closings per day between 8:15 am and 8 pm.
