Hundreds of people strolled down Main Street in Vineyard Haven last night in a celebration of the town’s birthday and of the late Cora Medeiros, the first woman to be elected selectman in the town of Tisbury. Music of all kinds (a capella, electric, impromptu) floated through the streets as vendors lined the sidewalks from 6:30 pm to almost ten. Entertainment and activities abounded, from a climbing wall erected on Union Street to a cookout hosted by the Tisbury Fire Department, and community organizations tabled side-by-side with local businesses. As darkness settled on cloudy Vineyard Haven, the gathering slowly dwindled, and tables were folded up until next year.
