Our mothers always said breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and to this day it rings true. Starting with a hearty breakfast is what fuels us to kick butt every day. New to the breakfast arena, or should I say, the “brunchfast” arena, is Sharky’s Cantina in Edgartown. Sharky’s now offers an all-you-can-eat meal every Saturday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. As the season slows down, more and more local establishments shut down until the spring, so this brunchfast is a great incentive for locals to get out of the house and enjoy a cooked-to-order meal for under $10 ($9.99 for adults, $4.99 for kids 10 and under).
When I think of “all you can eat,” my mind instantly goes to buffets with food that’s been sitting out for hours. Thankfully, this is not the MO of brunchfast. Have one of their friendly hostesses bring you and your guests to a table and take drink orders — they’re serving up bloody marys, mimosas, and morning margaritas. There’s also a full bar for those that need a little pick-me-up before noon. Although milk, juice, tea, and coffee are sold separately, they’re a great addition to any brunchfast. I, for one, can’t function without at least two, if not three, cups of coffee, and with endless refills of dark roast coffee, Sharky’s fuels you to tackle the all-you-can-eat breakfast.
It’s served up family-style, and the selection includes scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, sausage patties, flame-grilled chorizo, tater tots, cornbread, fluffy pancakes and syrup, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, and organic granola. Once your party has drinks and is ready, the server starts bringing out the food in large colorful bowls and platters, to share. Need more bacon and less chorizo? Just say so and they’ll tweak the next wave of food. And don’t be shy, they’ll keep bringing you food as long as you’re hungry.
It’s the perfect spot for families with kids— they can pick and choose what goes on their plate, whether it’s a couple of fluffy pancakes topped with syrup or endless tater tots dunked in ketchup. My favorite combination? The perfectly scrambled eggs alongside moist, slightly sweet cornbread and the crispiest bacon I’ve ever had. Just plan your day around not having lunch — you’ll be stuffed after brunchfast!
Come summer, brunchfast will be offered seven days a week. They’re currently working on also offering some à la carte items. In the meantime, roll out of bed on Saturday and head on over to Sharky’s Cantina in Edgartown for a delicious, affordable, and family-friendly breakfast.
