The West Tisbury fire department responded to a brushfire at 330 Takemmy Path, around 3:30 pm on Wednesday. Oak Bluffs resident Peter Bergeron, who was at a house that abuts the property on the Tisbury and West Tisbury town line, first noticed the smoke coming from the woods behind the house, and responded quickly. Mr. Bergeron called the fire department and then walked in the direction of the fire. He noticed the flames heading toward a propane tank on the property, so he hooked up a garden hose and fought the blaze until the West Tisbury fire department arrived.
Mr. Bergeron was checked for smoke inhalation after the fire department arrived and did not sustain any injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown.
“I would like to thank the medical staff who took care of me after the fire,” Mr. Bergeron said.
