To the Editor:
This letter is to express my gratitude and appreciation for everyone at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital maternity ward and ob-gyn department, who made the birth of our first baby an even greater experience than we could have imagined. The Island has many hidden gems, but this one shines the brightest. Beginning with the educational and informational birthing classes, to the box lunch that we were discharged with at the end of our stay, it could not have been a more complete or enjoyable experience. The ward is outfitted and designed more nicely than most homes, and it exudes calm and peace. Hidden behind custom cabinets in gigantic rooms were state-of-the-art birthing and childcare equipment, if needed as well.
However, the staff is what really made the experience special. They’re an all-star team, and it’s apparent that they love what they do and who they’re doing it with. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the heroics of Captain Epidural (you know who you are!), and the delicious food, which was served to both mother and father/support person throughout the stay. This is a great Island resource, and we feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to experience it.
