On Tuesday afternoon, officers from the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force (MVDTF) arrested John Hathaway Jr., 48, of Oak Bluffs for possession of approximately 54 grams of fentanyl, after executing a search warrant at 466A County Road in Oak Bluffs. Officers also seized $4,756 in cash, a digital scale, packaging material, and a cellular phone.
Fentanyl goes for $200 a gram on Martha’s Vineyard, making the street value of the haul $10,800.
Mr. Hathaway was charged with trafficking a class B Substance (fentanyl).
The search warrant was obtained as a result of a lengthy investigation into heroin and fentanyl distribution, according to an MVDTF press release.
MVDTF officers also located Thomas Wilkins, 22, at the residence, who was in possession of class B substances Percocet and Suboxone. A criminal complaint was filed for Mr. Wilkins.
Mr. Hathaway is being held at the Dukes County jail on $2,000 bail.
