Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC) archrivals Martha’s Vineyard and Bishop Stang opened the league schedule with a nailbiter on Tuesday at Dan McCarthy Field in Oak Bluffs.
Lacey Dinning scored with four minutes to play, drawing the Vineyarders to within one goal, but the Spartans netted an insurance goal two minutes later and held off intense Vineyard pressure to win, 10-8.
Addy Hayman notched four goals, and Lacey Dinning chalked up three goals plus an assist. Amanda Bernard also tallied for MV. Alexis Condon had one assist, and four shots on goal.
Hailey Meader was tough in the Vineyard net, and made 10 saves.
The Vineyarders (0-2) travel to Nantucket on Saturday and host Nauset for a Patriots Day matinee, Monday at 12:30 pm.
