Vineyard softball wins big over Madison Park


The Martha’s Vineyard offense was in full gear Tuesday afternoon as the host Vineyarders bombarded Madison Park of Boston, 23-5, in five innings.

Cana Courtney hit an inside-the-park homer in the second inning, doubled, and singled to finish 3-3 with two RBIs. Summer Cardoza was 4-4 with three doubles and three RBIs. Freshman Emily Mello batted 3-5 with a double and two RBIs. Baylee Francis tripled, and knocked in four runs.

Starting pitcher Sam Robinson struck out eight batters and got stellar defense from third baseman Myllenna d’Oliveira, who snagged two line drives at the hot corner.

The Vineyarders (1-1) host Monomoy on Wednesday and John O’Bryant of Boston on Monday. Both games start at 3:15 pm.
