Julia Bettencourt scored on Emma Bunker’s RBI line drive to first in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Martha’s Vineyard to a 13-12 high school softball win over Roxbury’s John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, Monday afternoon in Oak Bluffs.
Vineyard catcher Summer Cardoza slugged three triples and finished 4-4 at the plate, with four RBIs on the day.
Winning pitcher Sam Robinson fanned three and struck out another four looking. She also batted 2-3 and knocked in two runners.
Emma Bunker had two RBIs in the game and went 2-5, while Julia Bettencourt was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Myllenna DeOliveira doubled and chalked up two RBIs in three at-bats.
Emily Mello had the highlight on the base paths. Caught in a pickle between second and third in the fifth inning, the Vineyard freshman maneuvered her way out of the extended rundown and later scored from third to give the hosts a 12-10 lead.
The Vineyarders (2-2) are away for four games before returning home to play Barnstable on Tuesday, May 2 at 3 pm.
