The Bourne Canalmen visited Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs on Sunday afternoon and put an end to Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s (MVRHS) seven-game winning streak with a hard-fought 6-5 victory.

Jacob Ashworth and Ben Hall hit RBI singles in the top of the seventh inning to overturn a 5-4 Vineyard lead and send the Canalmen home winners.

Bourne improved to 11-3, while the Vineyarders dropped to 7-5.

The teams traded runs in the second inning. Ben Hall followed up Jacob Ashworth’s triple with a sacrifice fly to put Bourne on top, but Tabor Caron singled in Theo Gallagher to answer for MV.

Bourne added three runs in the top of the third to lead 4-1. In the bottom half, Elias Fhagen-Smith smacked a leadoff double, stole third, and scored on a grounder to get a run back for the hosts.

After Tabor Caron singled in the fourth inning, starting pitcher Jonas Lukowitz belted a three-run homer to put the Vineyarders up 5-4, a lead they would hold until the fateful seventh.

Lukowitz pitched three innings, giving up four runs with only one earned, striking out two, and walking one. James Sashin followed with two scoreless innings, and Chris Mayhew took the loss, allowing two runs in the seventh.
