Kevin Devine of Oak Bluffs returned home from his sixth Army overseas tour of duty on the 9:20 ferry into Oak Bluffs on Sunday morning, to a much-deserved welcome party.
On the dock, police officers from every town, firefighters, and EMS teams, all with vehicle lights flashing, greeted Mr. Devine. His family and friends awaited him eagerly at the end of the dock.
At the top of the ramp, beside the Steamship Authority terminal, a man waved a large American flag from the top of the fire truck’s fully extended ladder. There was excitement in the air as he got off the ferry to sirens wailing.
“I’m happy,” Mr. Devine’s mother said as she walked up the ramp at the homecoming celebration. “I am so glad to have him home.”
