Boston MedFlight will open a new facility at Mansfield Municipal Airport on March 1 to add to its locations in Boston and Plymouth, chief operating officer Andy Farkas told The Times. The new facility is designed to address “unmet demand in the South Coast area,” he said. Along with the Plymouth location, aircraft from the new facility will also service the Vineyard, he said. The nonprofit medevac company is also poised to purchase three “state of the art” H135 Airbus helicopters to upgrade its air fleet, he said.
This past August the Vineyard experienced an elevated volume of air evacuations, he said, with 36 in total, or more than one a day. Overall, Boston MedFlight made 400 air transfers in August, he said.
