The annual Stars & Stripes Festival was a unique fundraiser held at the Chilmark home of Jack Davies and Kay Kendall last week. The event raised funds for the Martha’s Vineyard YMCA. An outdoor showing of the movie “Sleepless in Seattle,” along with a barbecue dinner and a panel discussion including Meg Ryan, producer Gary Foster, and screenplay writer Scott Frank attracted some 300 people on a misty up-Island evening. During his introductory remarks, Jack Davies announced that the event raised over $200,000. When added to previous events over an eight-year period, these events have garnered over a million dollars for the YMCA. The funds provide financial assistance and community outreach for Y memberships and programs through the Stars & Stripes Strong Families Fund. Amazing!
