Every year, favorite Island restaurants and bakeries make the holidays a bit easier by doing what they do best — all the work. Call in and order what you want, or just show up and sit down. Either way, you and your family can kick back and relax this Thanksgiving Day, just a week away.
Kitchen Porch Catering is making it easier than ever. Just use this online form, and pick out everything you want, from brined, roasted, or fresh turkey, to soups, stuffings, and sides to pies and other fresh-from-the-bakery items. Pick up at Back Porch Larder between 12 and 4 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 21, or Thursday, Thanksgiving, between 10 and 11:30 am. Organic and Island-grown ingredients are used in everything on the menu. Scottish Bakehouse is another go-to option for easy, ready-to-go meals. Their menu is packed with the best in soups, salads, sides, whole turkey entrées, preportioned entrées, extras, and of course, desserts. There’s also an entire section for gluten-free and paleo diets. Order deadline is Monday, Nov. 19. Pick up at the Bakehouse anytime until next Thursday at 11 am. A small selection of side dishes, desserts, and biscuits will be available at 7a Foods in West Tisbury. You have to go into the takeout mart to see what’s available, but after you fill out a small form, you’re good to go. Orders will be taken until Monday, Nov. 19, at 4 pm. The Black Dog Tavern will not only cook your entire Thanksgiving dinner for you, but will also give you a view to enjoy it over. Their traditional Thanksgiving buffet includes fresh herb-roasted turkey, housemade bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green beans, sweet corn, gravy, cranberry relish, dinner rolls, and bakery-made pies. Dinner seatings are at noon, 2 and 4 pm. $45 per person, and $20 for kids 12 and under. There’s limited space, so reserve your spot by calling 508-693-9223.
New this year is Thanksgiving at the Cardboard Box. This new Oak Bluffs restaurant is offering three seatings: 1, 3, and 5 pm. The menu is being tuned for originality and perfection, made in Ben deForest style with traditional Thanksgiving fare. Options for everyone. $75 a head. Call 508-338-2621 to reserve a table.
Also hosting Thanksgiving dinner are the Terrace at the Charlotte Inn, 508-627-6227; Lucky Hank’s, 508-939-4082; Garde East, 508-687-9926; and L’Etoile, 508-627-5187. All restaurants recommend calling to make a reservation ahead of time.
There’s also a community supper at the Chilmark Community Church at 1 pm. It’s free, but dish donations and cash donations are welcome. 508-645-3100.
