A single-car crash Wednesday night in Oak Bluffs left a car perched atop a wooden guardrail and the driver charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred on Sea View Avenue near Lola’s. The driver, 56-year-old David McCarthy of Shrewsbury, was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital as a precautionary measure because first responders discovered the windshield of the vehicle, a Chevy sedan, was smashed, according to Oak Bluffs Police Lt. Tim Williamson. McCarthy was the sole occupant, and has been charged with drinking and driving by Massachusetts State Police, Williamson said. The crash occurred just after 5:30 pm.
