MIT men’s basketball senior and former MVRHS standout Tim Roberts of Oak Bluffs has been named as the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division III Men’s Basketball. The team, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Roberts, a civil and environmental engineering major, is a first team Academic All-America selection for the first time, and earned second team honors in 2017–18. This season, Tim had the top shooting season in school history, with a 68.6 field goal percentage, leading the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and ranking second in the nation.
Roberts averaged 15.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season, amassing 66 total assists, 48 steals, and 20 blocks. He scored in double digits 28 times, had eight games with 20 or more points, had three games with more than 15 rebounds, and finished sixth in the country with 18 double-doubles, including a career-high 28-point, 21-rebound double-double in a first-round win over Skidmore in the NCAA Tournament.
