The Tisbury School volleyball team closed out Edgartown School in a tightly contested fourth game, 25-22, on Thursday to claim the 2019 all-Island volleyball title. The Tigers, who posted a 7-1 regular-season record, dropped game one of the final to the 6-2 Eagles before sweeping the next three games.
Edgartown took game one in dramatic fashion. Trailing 21-17, they scored eight of the last nine points to win 25-22. Games two and three went to the Tigers by identical 25-14 scores. Game four was a nip-and-tuck affair, with Edgartown again mounting a late rally to take a 22-21 lead. This time, however, Tisbury responded with a rally of their own, winning the last four points of the game to claim the trophy.
The match, played at the Oak Bluffs School gym as a neutral site, featured impressive play and numerous long rallies that had the large crowd cheering and clapping in appreciation.
