The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) boys and girls track team defeated Bishop Stang on Wednesday at the Fairhaven High School track.
The girls squad prevailed 89-47, and the boys won 76-60, to move the team to 1-1 on the season.
Mackenzie Condon won the long jump, high jump, 400 hurdles, and the 200 meter, and Catherine Cherry won the javelin and the mile and two-mile races. Newcomer Maria Clara Lacerda won the 100 meters race in her second career event.
Peter Burks won the two-mile and 800 meters, JoJo Bonneau won the triple jump and the 400 meter hurdles. Upcoming Vineyarder distance runner Borja Tolay set a personal best time (10:46) in the two-mile, finishing second to Burke. Senior captain J.J. Alves won the 110 hurdles, and placed second in the 400 low hurdles. Owen Porterfield earned his team points in three events, including a first-place finish in the 400 meter run.
Coach Joe Schroeder said some team members will use the vacation week break to compete in invitational events before returning to league action in an away meet against Monomoy on April 24.
