Marylee Schroeder takes on Boston Marathon

She’s running race for the 16th time.

It’s Marathon Monday and you can track Islander Marylee Schroeder’ along the 26.2-mile route. Schroeder of West Tisbury is a veteran of Boston, running it for the 16th time today. Her ‘wave’ or group of the more than 32,000 runners started at 10:50 this morning.

Her husband Joe Schroeder, coach of the wildly-successful Island track team, is there as well — no doubt coaching on his mind as Marylee attacks the hills, valleys and flats between Hopkinton and Copley Square. Daughter, Whitney, former track star at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, now studying at Harvard College across the river, may take a break to peek in as well

This is the 122nd running of the oldest and most prestigious marathon and Marylee will have run more than 400 miles of the Boston Marathon when she finishes today. That’s the equivalent of a roundtrip run to New York City.
