“The Bruins are coming! Please join us for the first annual Ice Savours Hockey Game on Saturday, April 27, at 1 pm!”

So reads the recent announcement from the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena and the YMCA, co-sponsors of an inaugural fundraising event in which Boston Bruins alumni will take on a team of local skaters. Former Bruins luminaries Rick Middleton, Reggie Lemelin, and Bob Sweeney, among others, will participate. Going up against the Bruins alums will be the Martha’s Vineyard Mariners, a group of local players numbering about 20.

The day’s festivities will include a pregame show by the Martha’s Vineyard Skating Cub, as well as a raffle, T shirt sales, and other activities.

According to the organizers, “100 percent of the proceeds from the game will benefit the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Ice Arena is able to continue to be an Island legacy. Over 1,000 Vineyard children, teens, adults, and families benefit from programs at the Ice Arena each year.”

Ticket prices for the event are $20, and $5 for children under 6.

A final word from the organizers: “We look forward to seeing you on April 27th, and we thank you for helping us continue to provide ice programs for Island youth, teens, adults, and seniors!”
