Vineyard track standout Mackenzie Condon won the prestigious Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Invitational meet for the second straight year on Saturday, April 13.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) senior won both the 100 hurdles and 800 meter events, placed second in both the high jump and the long jump, and fifth in the shot put, to amass 3,095 points, 105 more than the second-place finisher.

The MSTCA invitational event draws several dozen of the state’s best multievent boy and girl athletes to North Andover each April. Condon won the two speed races in 2018, finished fourth in shotput and 11th in the long jump. She won that event with 2,780 points, and competed in all five events. Condon’s track performance was impressive this year, but not unexpected. Her field event results were stunning. Over the past year Condon has worked on field events, particularly the long jump. Those improvements (adding long jump for a second-place 2019 finish), and increased high jump proficiency (second place in 2019 versus 11th place in 2018), were the margin of difference in her win. Her 2018 score would have placed third in 2019.
