The Vineyarders slugged a dozen hits and beat the Nantucket Whalers, 12-2, in Cape and Islands League play on Saturday at Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs.

MV (5-4 overall, 5-0 C&I) scored twice in the first and second innings, and put the Whalers (0-6) away with a five-run fifth.

Owen Bresnick paced the Vineyard offense with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Keaton Aliberti added a pair of hits, knocked in two runs, and scored another. Michael Cosgrave, Andrew Marchand, Ryan Mendez, and Jackson Pizzano each chipped in a hit and an RBI, while Jeremy Regan singled and scored a run.

Vineyard starter Jared Regan struck out 10 Whalers, allowing two runs on four hits while walking two in six innings of work. He also hurt Nantucket at the plate with a single, a double, and two runs scored. Cameron Moore worked the seventh inning, and put the Whalers down 1-2-3 while striking out one.
