Undefeated Blazers top seed in men’s softball playoffs


The men’s Island Softball League regular season concluded with a triple header Monday night at Veterans Park. The Blazers, who already had clinched the top seed in the playoffs, beat the Mermen, 13-8, to finish undefeated at 12-0. The Whitecaps blasted the Brewhas, 18-4, to hold down second place at 9-3 and the Misfits blanked the Floaters, 5-0, to earn their first win of the season.

The defending champion Highlanders, last seen beating the Misfits, 15-0 on July 17, will be the third seed with a record of 8-4, followed by the Brewhas (6-6), Mermen (4-8), Floaters (2-10) and Misfits (1-11).

The playoffs begin July 25 at Veterans Park, with the Blazers and Whitecaps earning first round byes. The Highlanders will meet the winner of a play-in series between the Floaters and Misfits, while the Brewhas play the Mermen. Each series is a best-of-three. Game two of the first round is scheduled for Monday, with game three, if necessary, on Wednesday night. Play begins at 7 pm.
