Haiti, labeled as one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, has been in political protest for more than a year against government corruption, according to information from PeaceQuilts. Amid the perpetual turmoil are strong communities developing grassroots solutions toward not only survival but collective care and advancement. Join Arielle Berrick, co-coordinator of Art Matènwa, for a discussion of the Women Artists of Matènwa, Haiti, a longstanding collective with a connection to Cape Cod artists, musicians, and students. See the detailed and skillful, traditional and contemporary, Haitian artwork, and hear the artists’ stories on Monday, August 26, at 3:30 pm during World Market Mondays at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. The free event is hosted by Peace Quilts of Haiti and World Market Mondays.
