The sewer advisory board has approved more sewer flow for a project that includes that former Santander Bank building.

The Tisbury board of selectmen has scheduled a meeting for 4:30 pm Tuesday at the Emergency Services Facility in executive session to discuss the former Santander Bank building at 45 Main St.

The posting says the board will discuss the “purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property.” The bank building has been on the market for nearly two years since Santander closed the branch. Selectmen are allowed to meet without the public and press present if they feel as though discussing it in public would hurt the town’s negotiating strategy.

The roof of the building is scheduled to be fixed this fall after a resolution was finally reached on the clay tiles to be used on it. The roof was the topic of controversy after then-Tisbury building inspector Ken Barwick allowed Santander to replace the historic roof with asphalt shingles. Selectmen referred the project to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, which ultimately ordered Santander to put clay tiles back on the roof.

Speculation is that the bank building, which is in a prime location in Vineyard Haven, has failed to sell because of the ongoing controversy over the roof. One of Barwick’s final acts as building inspector before retiring was to approve the tiles that were chosen by the contractor.

One reply on “Is Tisbury thinking of buying Santander building?”

  1. Let that be the new school for the kids and they could walk to get some exercise to Veterans Park for their recess and sports activities. Trash the old school, make it the new town Hall with office space for `ICE` and whatever other important Tisbury offices and they could all be there in one spot to hopefully communicate better!
Plus Hillary could have a bigger office so she can have a cleaner and more organized desk!

That would save $$$$$$$$$$ on out taxes and would also require to make sure only legally documents students qualify to attend our school!
We have to start some where especially now that Tristan is gone, now once Melinda is replaced we can down to real serious business with Jeff, Jimmy and get a good dedicated native conservative in there to fill Melinda’s seat.
Something drastic has to change in Tisbury!
