Island towns receive additional road and bridge funding

The Baker-Polito administration is allocating $20 million in additional funding to Massachusetts cities and towns for road construction and transportation improvement projects, including almost $76,000 for Island efforts, according to a press release.

This funding was included in a supplemental budget signed by Gov. Charlie Baker as part of the Chapter 90 formula, which entitles cities and towns to receive reimbursements on approved projects.

As part of the additional funding, Aquinnah will receive $3,540, Edgartown will receive $23,870, Oak Bluffs will receive $19,480, West Tisbury will receive $8,158, Tisbury will receive $14,196, and Chilmark will receive $6,455.

In the release, it is specified that funding for each municipality is predetermined by a formula that includes factors such as population, road miles, and employment.
