Indoor track beats Barnstable

Vineyard girls and boys pick up solid wins on the Cape.

The Vineyarder indoor track team traveled to Barnstable High School on Tuesday afternoon, and posted a Cape and Islands League dual meet sweep. The boys won, 49-39, while the girls prevailed, 52-43.

For the boys, Borja Tolay ran first in the mile (4:55.6) and the two-mile (11:00). Nick Pecararo also won two events, taking the 55-meter sprint (38.9) and the 300m (38.9). Nate Porterfield leaped 17 feet, 1.25 inches, to win the long jump, Jonathan Norton won the 55m high hurdles (8.7), and David DaSilva placed first in the 600m (1:37.6). In the 4 x 200 relay, Kenny Cook, Walker Brescia, Porterfield, and DaSilva ran to victory in 1:48.9. The boys earned a pair of seconds, Duncan Brown (1000m, 2:55.8) and Cook (300m, 44.3), along with three thirds, courtesy of Sam Fetters (1000m, 3:09), Norton (mile, 5:07), and Porterfield (600m, 1:44.6).

The Vineyard girls won the first nine events. Anabelle Biggs claimed a hat trick of firsts in the long jump (16 feet, 7.25 inches), 55m high hurdles (9.9), and 300m (43.8). Ashlei Clarke started off the meet with a win in the shot put (28 feet, 1 inch), and added a first place in the 55m (8.3). The Christy sisters notched two wins apiece. Eloise was tops in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and the 600m (1:30.4), while Wren won the mile (5:45) and the 1000m (3:19.4). Amber Cuthbert placed second in the two-mile (12:50), and Alexa Schroeder was third in the 1000m (48.2).

Next on the schedule for the Vineyarders is a home meet against Falmouth on Saturday at 11:30 am.
