Brewhas top Highlanders on walk-off blast, ‘Caps sink Floaters


Derek Chrebet hit a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Brewhas to a 13-12 win over the Highlanders in Men’s Island Softball League action, Monday night at Veterans Park.

The teams were tied at 10-10 after the regulation seven innings. Matt Kurth, who batted 5 for 5 on the night, singled to score Aksel Cooperrider in the top of the eighth and Ryan Kurth knocked in John Mazza with another single to put the Highlanders up, 12-10, heading into the home half of the eighth.

Tom Benedict homered twice for the Brewhas in the game and got on base in the eighth, along with Tim Millerick, before Chrebet went yard with the game-winner.

In the nightcap, the Whitecaps broke loose for eight runs in the first inning against the Floaters and went on to win, 31-8. Cody Brewer had the big blast with a three-run shot to deep center.
