The top-seeded MVRHS boys tennis team started off the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional with a 4-1 win over No. 17 Bourne, Monday afternoon on the Ned Fennessy courts in Oak Bluffs.
With No. 1 singles Max Potter out due to a prior commitment, Eric Reubens played in the top spot and won handily over Bourne’s Xavier Enokia 6-0, 6-0. Jacob Riis played well at second singles and downed Michael Carrara 6-1, 6-0.
The Vineyarders forfeited the third singles match and swept the doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Teagan Myers and Clyde Smith clinched the best-of-five series, defeating Jeff Ellis and Ian Gray 6-1, 6-1. Second doubles Ben Belisle and Jack Marshard bested Alex Shvayko and Joziah DeSouza 6-3, 6-0 to close out the afternoon.
The Vineyarders are back on the home courts Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm against ninth-seeded Monomoy in the South quarterfinals.
