Chilmark has given notice to its taxpayers that the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) will provide free testing for PFAS from private well water. Area use of firefighting foam, which can contain PFAS, so-called forever chemicals, is among the reasons MassDEP states folks may want to test well water. Other Vineyard towns that qualify for the free testing are Aquinnah and West Tisbury.
