Island artist Bernica Wilcox’s show, “The Female Gaze,” will be at the Vineyard Haven library through April 2024. Wilcox is a surrealist painter who focuses on femininity and nature using acrylic, watercolors, and ink. She creates unique pieces, focused on the female perspective, that invite the viewer to question and ponder. In her artist’s statement, Wilcox says that “The Gaze of a Woman” tells a story of a woman who falls in love with her soulmate at the wrong time. The lovers go through periods of affection and absent-mindedness, and eventually go their separate ways, leaving the woman to find her way back to herself.
Art in the Stacks is an initiative of the Friends of the Library to provide artists an opportunity to show their work, and for library patrons to enjoy art throughout the year. Artists interested in showing their work at Art in the Stacks may contact the Vineyard Haven library at 508-696-4210.
