The Martha’s Vineyard Times took home a number of awards over the weekend at the New England Newspaper and Press Association (NENPA) annual award ceremony.
Former Times editor George Brennan was recognized twice over the weekend as well.
At Saturday’s award ceremony in Waltham, The Times received first place in two categories, including best front page and the right to know category, placing in 11 total categories.
“We’re proud of all of our staff, and their ability and dedication in delivering the best newspaper and magazines we can,” Times managing editor Connie Berry said. “Being recognized for our efforts seems like icing on the cake, and we’re happy that our former editor was recognized as well as our work this past year. On to next year!”
The winning front page included the news of asylum seekers landing on the Island.
Former Times reporter Rich Saltzberg received the right to know award for his work investigating the Oak Bluffs Fire Department.
Aside from the two first place finishes, The Times also received third place for best overall website, and second place for the “outstanding newsletter” category.
The Times’ newsroom received second place in the general news category for its reporting on the arrival of Venezuelan asylum seekers on the VIneyard in the summer of 2022.
On the design and production side, The Times received third place for best niche publication for an issue of Edible Vineyard. Edible co-editor Tina Miller and Times managing editor Connie Berry were both recognized. Design director Kristofer Rabasca received second place for best overall design and presentation of a niche product, for Edible Vineyard.
Rabasca and Berry received second place for living page or section, and third place for a living page or section for the Community section of the newspaper.
MV Times graphic designer Nicole Jackson was recognized twice: She received third place for best illustration/infographics for her infographic for designing the movements of sharks and second place for a special section or editorial supplement for The Times’ holiday gift guide.
Thank you MV Times for existing. We need true journalism to counter all the social media propaganda. And THANK YOU to all the journalists.
Was there an award for hosting so many vile antisemitic lies?
Is there a reason why you keep censoring me for pointing it out?
