No one was reported injured after multiple towns responded to a home basement fire on Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road in Vineyard Haven on Tuesday morning.

Tisbury Fire Chief Patrick Rolston told The Times on Tuesday that the fire was called in at 6:37 am, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread beyond the basement.

Two residents were able to exit the home safely, and will be able to re-enter after emergency personnel vented the basement and monitored air quality.

Rolston said that smoke went throughout the building, but that damage was minimal. “It wasn’t a whole lot of damage,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Rolston said it began near a water heater and dryer.

The Tisbury chief commended fire personnel for the early morning response.

“Our crew did a great job getting on location and stopping and saving the building,” he told The Times. He also acknowledged “our mutual aid towns, coming and assisting us with manpower and everything during a weekday morning.”

Edgartown Road was closed from Rockland Trust Bank to Hillside Village while fire personnel were on the scene Tuesday morning.
