Sarah Williams (“Sally”) died peacefully in her sleep on May 9, 2025, in her home in Oak Bluffs.
Sally had a long, fun life. Born on August 2, 1934, to Helen Hobart Williams and the Rev. John Paul Williams, she graduated from Brown University with a Ph.D. in history, and taught history in Brookline.
Sally enjoyed summers on the Island until she moved here full-time when she retired. Then she enjoyed music camp. She also liked watching and counting the birds in her neighborhood. But Sally’s greatest joy was her dogs –– Hector, her very loving German Shepherd, and then Cassie, her shepherd mix.
Sally was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Williams Brown. She is survived by her nieces, Sharon Brown and Judi Urquhart (Gordon Harris); and nephews, Bill Smith (Mary Gazda) and Justin Brown.
Sally was buried in Oak Grove, in a private ceremony.
Sally would like those who remember her kindly to send a donation to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539.
