There’s still time for Vineyard students to submit artwork for the Steamship Authority’s (SSA) annual art contest.
The SSA is accepting entries for its 11th annual “Sail into Imagination” art contests for students, from kindergarteners to high school seniors, living on Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Nantucket, and in Fairhaven or New Bedford. Entries are due by May 29.
The contest theme is “The Sea and Me,” and students are asked to “share their connections to the sea and the Steamship Authority,” according to a press release from the ferry line. Artwork must feature a SSA ferry, but otherwise artists have freedom in how they interpret the theme.
“The annual student art contest is one of our most popular traditions, and I’m thrilled to see the creative talents of our local students on display,” Alex Kryska, SSA general manager, said in the release.
The winning pieces of art will be featured in the 2027 SSA calendar, and displayed on the SSA’s website and some ferries. Winners will also be awarded gift cards for passenger travel aboard ferries. All entrants will be entered into a grand prize drawing for a $150 Visa gift card. Winners will be announced on the ferry line’s website later this year.
Students can submit artwork by mail, or by dropping off their submissions at a Steamship Authority terminal. Entries submitted by mail should be directed to the SSA’s Communications and Marketing Department, 228 Palmer Ave., Falmouth, MA 02540.
