The weather is beautiful. Native Earth Teaching Farm is open from 10 am to 6 pm on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Randy Ben David and Rebecca Gilbert have plenty of guinea fowl eating ticks and other insects. They, along with the goats, ducks, chickens, and geese, welcome summer with yellow and orange St. John’s wort blossoms and fields of daisies.
Architect turned abstract watercolor painter Ken MacLean’s paintings are going up in the Chilmark library. The opening is Saturday, June 27, from 3 to 4:30 pm.
Congratulations to all. The Chilmark School’s graduation ceremony was magnificent. Their teacher, Jackie Guzalak’s personal remarks included a lesson on Gen Alphaisms, which gave us a hint at the depth and poise of these students: Leyawin Mayhew Blows Up — successful effort. Taeko Thomson is Extra, as in over the top. Phoebe Esposito is Fire — her ideas are great and stand out in a positive way. Virginia Wallace Slays — does things really well and puts in the effort. Orion Persinki rides the Thin Line — outside the box, Independent, not social norms, an AI guy. Orion Parry Ate and Left No Crumbs — nothing left on the table. Golden Vanderhoop embodies Big Brain — stroke-of-genius energy. Estelle Mason has Main Character Energy — the star of her own life. Andres Mason is a Rizzler — exceptional charisma along with his musical, athletic, and artistic talents. Hazel Stahl has the Vibe of a Distant Moon — epic world-building energy. Rivee Rykowski, the GOAT — greatest of all time, not just on hockey skates. Teddy Foran has Aura — charisma or swagger earned as a measure of things done.
I hope someone recorded the students’ remarks, because they were outstanding. We are lucky they are in this world.
The Chilmark Flea Market starts Saturday, June 27. The market is held Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 9 am to 2 pm at 142 North Road, near the old gas pump. Wednesdays the Chilmark Community Church will have a treasure table.
Tuesday night Lobster Rolls at the Chilmark Community Church, 9 Menemsha Crossroads, start on June 30, 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Jean Hay wrote that MV for Palestine, Olive Branch, and Expanding the Conversation are sponsoring a showing of a film that follows a Palestinian family from 1948 to the 2020s, “All That’s Left of Me,” at the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs on Sunday, June 28, at 6 pm. Donations of $20 are requested, but no one will be turned away.
