Summer activities have begun. And plans sometimes change because the dog threw up on the slip-covered couch, one of the pillows’ zipper had no stopper for the pull and is now useless, and the main cover fit so tightly that any shrinkage will make it impossible to get back on.
Note to self: Breathe in and out slowly, and repeat — don’t give up and don’t blow up.
Did you know that if you lick your thumb and index finger, it makes it easier to open doggie poop bags? And that logos and writing help identify which side is the top?
Every Tuesday, lobster rolls are sold by the Chilmark Community Church from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. The lobster and rolls come with chips. You can add seltzers, brownies, and Judy Mayhew’s perfectly baked chocolate chip cookies. The all-volunteer crew includes friends and neighbors, and teenagers to those in their 90s! It is lovely to catch up and meet up.

Chilmark softball has begun. Sig van Raan writes, “A beautiful sunny morning hosted the opening of this summer’s Sunday morning softball season. A good core group of about 20 players played 2 ‘practice’ games, as batters and fielders worked out the kinks, aches, and realities of, shall we say, ‘mature and well-seasoned’ bodies. Between games, the players gathered to memorialize and remember Jay Grossman, a longstanding player who died way too early, back in March. Joel Greenberg,a close friend of Jay, read a loving message to the team from Jay’s son, Justin. Joel read his own moving piece about Jay. Following a few more comments by others, we all agreed, Jay would have said, ‘OK, enough of that — let’s play ball. Gloves in!’ We expect a larger turnout on July Fourth weekend’s Sunday game.”
