To the Editor:
“No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.” –James Allen
Our veterans were there when our country asked them to serve. We need to ensure that we are there to support them upon their return. From time to time, they ask us to help out, and we try. There are many Martha’s Vineyard veterans we may see in our daily lives, and never know of their struggle each day. Those of us working with our veterans see and hear their stories, and all too often, we have limited resources to help.
Tuesday, July 7, at 7:05 pm, the M.V. Sharks will be honoring our Vineyard veterans as they host the fourth Vineyard Veterans Night game. The Sharks and the Veterans Advocate Group will be hosting a silent auction. Proceeds from the game will be donated to our Vineyard veterans through the MVCS Outreach Program. Proceeds will go into the “Veterans Grant Fund,” and will support and honor our veterans who have served our country. All the funds will be spent on such things as housing, food, utilities, medical expenses, transportation, clothing, and programs that will benefit our Vineyard veterans.
Admission is free for all veterans and all Gold Star parents, whether you are from on- or off-Island! Thank you, Sharks! Enjoy the game, and thank you for your service! “The land of the free because of the brave.”
