Musician Stan Strickland is turning 80 years old this year. In celebration of that, a special concert at Featherstone Arts will take place, Monday, July 13, at 6:30 pm. Strickland has been an active member of the summer jazz community on M.V. for decades.

The theme of the show is Inner Freedom, a different spin on the idea of the country’s celebration of its 250th anniversary. Stan and his longtime ally, Joel Harrison, will perform music from two of the most iconic jazz records of all time, “In A Silent Way,” by Miles Davis, and “A Love Supreme,” by John Coltrane.

Other musicians joining them are Chico Huff, a virtuoso bassist originally from Martha’s Vineyard now based in Philadelphia. His long career has included performances with James Taylor and Kate Taylor, Solas, Dr. John, Terence Blanchard, and more. Robby Ammen is an internationally renowned drummer who played for Paul Simon’s “Capetown” musical. Taurus Biskus and Wes Nagy are longstanding Islanders. Admission $20. featherstoneart.org
