A truck rolled over on Sea View Avenue in Oak Bluffs this weekend near Nomans Restaurant. The driver was summoned to court for allegedly driving in a negligent manner with an open container of alcohol.
The driver, named by an Oak Bluffs official as Sean Hegarty, was issued a court summons after the Friday incident for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, open container of alcohol, marked lanes violation, and speeding.
According to a weekend roundup of incidents posted on Facebook by Oak Bluffs Police, first responders arrived to the area on Friday around 10:23 pm after a report came in that a vehicle hit a utility pole and then rolled over three times.
Police stated a “heavily damaged” 2025 Toyota Tacoma was blocking the roadway, and the male operator was found a short distance away. The driver was then transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for “apparent minor injuries.”
On Friday night, police from Oak Bluffs and Edgartown blocked off a large stretch of the road to vehicle traffic between the two towns — from Canonicus Avenue in Oak Bluffs to Jaws Bridge in Edgartown — in order to deal with the incident. Another police officer blocked cars from Edgartown from heading toward Nomans at the top of Beach Road.
Olessa Stepanova, Eversource spokesperson, said the incident involved a “support pole.”
“There were no power outages or service interruptions as a result of the incident,” she said in an email. “Our crews responded to [remove damaged] support equipment from the roadway, and [a] replacement pole was scheduled to be installed the following day.”
The truck rollover came only a week after an accident in front of Nomans involving a truck and an electric dirt bike, when a father and son were medevaced to a Boston trauma center in critical condition.
