“Discomfort Isn’t a Flaw,” 3D mixed-media art by Allison Roberts, will be on display in the Schuel Gallery at Featherstone Center for the Arts, Monday, August 10, through Sunday, Sept. 6. The opening reception will be Saturday, August 15, from 4 to 6 pm, with music by Sarah Shaw Dawson.
Allison Roberts’ art is a vibrant blend of representational and abstract pieces that explore socioeconomic status, war, race, gender, love, empathy, and more. Her work is flush with humor and honesty, and the accompanying written content inspires thoughtful conversation.
Roberts grew up immersed in the world of artists. Watching both of her parents create art in many forms inspired her to become an actor, artist, and writer in her own right. She is the features editor and writer at The MV Times, the founder of the popular Rochester, N.Y.–based comedy troupe EstroFest, and works as a freelance illustrator, muralist, public artist, and painter. She sells her artwork at Tending Joy in West Tisbury and Craftworks in Oak Bluffs.
