Last night, Island Housing Trust (IHT) celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Grange Hall. For two decades, IHT has worked to provide year‑round residents to live, work, and thrive. The Grange was packed.
Ellen Biskis provided music and participants enjoyed food and drinks. Upstairs in the theater, an 11-minute documentary about the history and current status of IHT played on a loop. Included in the documentary were interviews of recipients of IHT homes, who shared how helpful — and in some cases, life-changing — it was for them to be able to find a home and stay on-Island.
Former board chair Richard Leonard, outgoing founding CEO Phillipe Jordi, and Pamela Craven, IHT board chair, shared a bit of the organization’s history, goals, and highlights.
The affordable housing nonprofit celebrated the creation of 210 permanently affordable rental and ownership homes, with a goal of completing 100 more homes in the next two years through 88 rentals and 12 ownership opportunities that will house more than 200 additional year‑round residents across Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, and West Tisbury.
