The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival (MVIFF) celebrates worldwide cinema.
Each September, The MV Film Society gathers the best new films from dozens of countries that provide a path to bridging our cultural differences and exploring universal human experiences. This year, the focus is on countries that are under-represented on American screens.
Official opening night reception is September 10th, and will feature CALLE MALAGA, a romantic drama about an aging Spanish woman in Tangier who rediscovers love and desire while resisting her daughter’s decision to sell her home. It plays at the Film Center at 7:30pm.
The film will be preceded by an opening night party on the lawn of the Tisbury Marketplace.
Meet fellow festival attendees and special guests under a tented reception, from 5:30 to 7 pm, on the beautiful waterfront lawn adjacent to Lagoon Pond, just off Beach Road at the Tisbury Marketplace. Wine, beer, and bubbly will be served with the help of Our Market, along with delicious, locally sourced appetizers and a Morocco-inspired buffet meal prepared by Goldie’s Rotisserie. The Eric Johnson jazz quartet will perform, and Mad Martha’s Ice Cream will be back with its dreamy ice cream desserts.
On Sunday, September 13th, the closing night film will be the Italian documentary THE SIEGE OF PARADISE. After that film, the party continues at THE WAVE MV, 52 Beach Road, a short walk from the Film Center, for closing night. Enjoy Italian/Seafood dishes, libations, and live music from DJ Smooth-B.
