The co-founders of Darkness into Vineyard Light, John Murray and Maria Ventura, have made the difficult decision that this year’s 9th annual Darkness into Vineyard Light Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk will be their final event.

“It is with both heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we share this announcement,” Ventura said. “Due to personal, family, and health considerations, we feel it is time to bring this chapter to a close. Over the past nine years, what began as a small idea has grown into an incredible community of participants, sponsors, volunteers, and dedicated past and present board members. Because of your unwavering support, we have been able to raise awareness, encourage open conversations, help break the stigma surrounding suicide, and remind so many people that they are never alone. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us bring light into the darkness for so many.”

On Sept. 19, the community is invited to come together one final time for the 9th annual Darkness into Vineyard Light Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk, to celebrate the work of both community members and Murray and Ventura.

Sept. 19, 5 am, Bend in the Road/Beach Road, Edgartown. If you have any questions about this race, please contact the race director at darknessintovineyardlight@gmail.com. Click here to sign-up runsignup.com/Race/MA/Edgartown/8thAnnualDVLWalk.
