Another home that belonged to a creator of childhood memories has been sold to new owners.
The Edgartown home of Norman Bridwell, the creator of the beloved children’s book series “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” was sold to an Ohio-based limited liability company last week.
Eastern Bank, the trustee of the Norma Bridwell Trust, which shares the name of Norman Bridwell’s wife, sold 49 High St. to Big Red Dog MV LLC on Sept. 1 for $3.65 million.
The LLC manager is listed as Dulaney Anning of Cincinnati, Ohio, according to the business entity database run by the secretary of the commonwealth of Massachusetts’ office. The company’s resident agent is listed as CT Corporation System, a business compliance management service run by Wolters Kluwer, a Dutch multinational corporation that offers various services and software for professionals in various industries.
Norman Bridwell died in 2014, and Norma Bridwell entered the property into the trust in 2016. She died last year in October.
Alyssa Halisky of Wallace & Co. Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent, and she noted Norman Bridwell’s support of local libraries and schools.
“He did a lot for the community,” Halisky said.
Halisky said the Bridwells lived in the house for 40 years, and it was the place where the “Clifford” series was written and sketched on the Island. Later on, the family also let staff from Martha’s Vineyard Museum, which had a “Clifford” exhibit in 2024, look through the house for items to preserve.
Earlier this summer, on August 11, 180 Pilot Hill Farm Road, the Tisbury home of Marc Brown, creator of the book series “Arthur,” and his wife, artist Laurene Brown, was sold to DRS Pilot Hill LLC for $6.4 million. DRS Pilot Hill is a Pittsfield-based LLC with the manager listed as Rosanne Ziering, who’s also from the city in the Berkshires.
Both “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Arthur” were adapted into television programs for PBS.
