Four students from Vineyard schools will have their artwork showcased in the Steamship Authority’s (SSA) 2027 calendar.

The SSA announced the winners of its 11th annual “Sail into Imagination” art contest Thursday. More than 100 art pieces were submitted inspired by this year’s theme “the sea and me,” in which the students were asked to “share their connections to the sea and the Steamship Authority,” according to a press release.

“We’re always impressed by the creativity that comes through in this contest, and this year was no exception,” Alex Kryska, SSA general manager, said in the release. “It’s exciting to see these students put their talent and personality into their artwork, and we’re incredibly grateful to every student who helped make this year’s contest so special.”

Artwork was submitted by students attending schools on the Vineyard, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Fairhaven, and New Bedford, and was judged by Benton Jones, art director at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. Vineyard students who were selected among the 15 winners include Oak Bluffs School second grader Rose Lopes, Chilmark School third grader Boonraksa Montoya, and two West Tisbury fourth graders Lillianna Grillo and Addison Seger. Each winner will receive a $100 SSA gift card that can be used for travel, concessions, or parking.

Another West Tisbury School student, Emily Wajkowski, was selected to win the $150 Visa gift card in a grand prize drawing open to all contest entrants.

The release states there will be a limited number of calendars available to be picked up at SSA terminals starting in November. Posters of winning artwork will also be displayed aboard SSA ferries.
