MVLL invites the public to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum for a free event on Thursday, September 17, from 5 to 6:30 pm.
The program is sponsored by the MV Diversity Coalition Education Committee and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History-MV Branch, and will feature “Ancestors, Influences, MV Connections”, a short video compilation of excerpts from 15 elders, as told to Vineyard high school and middle school student-interviewers from 2017 to 2026. The screening reflects a powerful intergenerational, multicultural portrait of Vineyard history and community. A panel discussion will offer different perspectives on this ongoing project and its impact. The panel will include participants from all phases of the project: teachers, students, elders, and video professionals, with an opportunity for audience questions.
MVLL is designed to preserve the dynamic voices and stories of some of the outstanding, yet underrepresented, Island elders who have had a meaningful impact on the Vineyard’s community. Documenting their stories with students through recorded interviews has – and continues to be – inspirational as well as educational.
MVLL is funded in part by Mass Humanities, the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation, the MV Local Cultural Council, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, the Martha’s Vineyard Bank, and the MV Vision Fellowship.
All are welcome. For more information, please contact Mona Hennessy, at: monahennessy1@gmail.com.
