SHINE NEWS
Are you ready for Medicare Open Enrollment? SHINE can help!
Medicare Open Enrollment runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 — and it’s the perfect time to review your current coverage, explore new options, and potentially save money. Certified SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) counselors are available by appointment at your local Council on Aging to guide you through the process.
By Sept. 30, all Medicare beneficiaries receive an Annual Notice of Coverage. This document outlines any changes to your plan’s costs, benefits, or rules for the upcoming year. It’s important to review this information carefully.
Meeting with a SHINE counselor can help you:
• Understand your current Medicare coverage
• Compare health and prescription drug plans
• Identify cost-saving opportunities
• Learn about public programs that may help with premiums, copayments, and other expenses based on your income and assets
Don’t wait — appointments fill up fast!
There is no cost to meet with a SHINE counselor, and the potential savings can be significant. To avoid last-minute decisions or staying in a plan that no longer meets your needs, schedule your SHINE appointment early. Appointments are available in person, by phone, or virtually.
What should you do now?
1. Call your local Council on Aging or Senior Center to book a SHINE appointment.
2. Gather the following items to bring to your appointment:
• Your Medicare A/B card
• Your Medigap or Medicare Advantage card
• Your Part D Prescription Drug Plan card (if applicable)
• A current list of medications and dosages (your pharmacy can help with this)
• Your Medicare.gov username and password (if you have an account — this saves time!)
