To the Editor:
Hey, I am sorry to harp on this once again (as I have already posted two letters recently), but I think those in charge of dealing with flooding from rain events in Five Corners and near the hospital need to stop devoting so much effort and money to more studies on expensive and complicated infrastructure solutions. It appears from the reporting that yes, road water can be diverted into the harbor. That’s good to know. That being the case, please tell us why a few small catch basins with sump pumps in plastic filtering barrels and backwash hoses pumping the water over the sand via hose to the harbor would not solve the problem. Is this not cheap, portable, easily replaceable, and effective? Can it not be tried?
The MV Times might want to look into and explain to us whether this or other simpler, more immediate solutions would be feasible or not. Talk to Servpro, Rapid Recovery MV, Clean Harbors (they have vacuum trucks), MEMA (Mass Emergency Management Agency), or some plumbers, and let us know what their take on the matter is.
We are not impressed with the response to this endless problem that appears to be solvable.
